If you are planning to join the club for the trip to Giraween you should think about booking your campsite very soon. It is currently 60% booked out on the Saturday and Sunday nights and nearly always books out well before the week-end. The availablility at Brooyar is currently good but a group booking can change that very quickly.
It would be great to see as many members as possible help out.
The BRC will help clean up the top of the K.P. cliff between the wall and cliff, as part of the K2 Extreme team.
Bring safety gear (a harness, belay device binners, and safety tie in rope), as well as a hat and sunscreen. Wear sturdy shoes as some sharp objects (needles) can be encounter. Gloves are provided, but bring your own if you have some sturdy gloves

Meeting Point: Top Rotunda, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, River Terrace. Start time: 0830 End time: 1200 Site Coordinator Details: David Ryland (K2)
As many as possible should all try to attend, as trash and broken glass is not helpful to our setup ropes. Last year, we went for a cold drink and some lunch afterwards at the Pineapple Hotel.
Slider Wall, Mt Tibrogargan. This Sunday Dennis has invited a small group of subscibers to climb at Slider Wall. The first 6 to 8 that apply will get to go. Climbs are mainly bolted. There are only 5 climbs below 17, then one each at 17, 18 and 19. The remainder are above grade 21. If you are interested email the committee, committee@brisrock.org marked "Attention Dennis - Slider Wall" or contact Dennis directly. For more details see the Trip Report and Notes sent out on the 5th Feb 10.
Frog Buttress, Mount French. Veronica is inviting subscibers back to Frog Buttress this Sunday morning. We will meet at the carpark at Frog Buttress at 6am. Please email the committee marked " Attention Veronica - Frog Buttress" or contact Veronica directly.
Please discuss car pooling if required with either Dennis or Veronica.
To avoid the Australia Day crowds, festivities and drunks, our usual Tuesday night climbing has been changed to Wednesday 27th Jan this week. See you then

Xmas Party
Many thanks to Wayne and Katrina Sutcliffe for hosting the BRC Xmas Party and thanks to the many members who attended and contributed to the BRC AGM. For those of you who missed the Xmas Party the new committee for 2010 is as follows:
PresidentDennis Reaves (as 2009) TreasurerGlenn Carthy (Committee Member last year) SecretaryVeronica Forde Committee MemberMarty Hourigan Committee MemberMark James
The web site has now been updated with these details. Other than the spectacular feats of strength shown by members on Wayne’s climbing “gym” - our new committee member Marty had us all aghast with his prowess- the other important information which came out of the AGM was the decision for the BRC to affiliate with the Australian Climbing Association Queenland. A good time was had by all.
Prizes for Best Photo and Trip Report over the December/January Break
It’s time subscribers helped us further develop our web site, and the best photo and trip report submitted before the February Committee Meeting (tentatively 3rd or 10th February) will be rewarded with a $50 voucher for climbing/outdoor gear for the best photo and $100 voucher for the best trip report. All submissions will be presented at the February Committee Meeting and the winners will be chosen by ballot. If you win both, with your member discount it may be enough for a new cam! Please email all entries to the committee and mark all entries “ATTENTION VERONICA – Photo & Trip Report Comp”.
Trip List
The first climbing trip for 2010 has been scheduled for 13th February at Frog Butress. As the last trip to Frog was scheduled for a Sunday, we have scheduled this one for a Saturday to give members who can’t climb on Sunday’s a chance to climb with other subscribers. If you have the opposite problem please email the committee as we may have subscribers who would climb both days.
We expect that subsciber trips will be posted after the first committee meeting for 2010 in early February. Please email in any trip requests before February 2010.
Subscribers Forum
Thanks to Sean Walsh, we now have a subscibers forum on the BRC website. The original intention was for subscibers to communicate with each other in regard to organising extra climbing trips, eg, looking for climbing buddies to go climbing on week-ends or subscibers organising trips to locations not on the published subscibers trip list. We have had requests for trips to places which are either too small to cater for a club group or are only suited to advanced leaders. This would be a good place for subscribers to discuss the possibility of going to those areas with other members. To access the forum, look for “Subscribers Forum” down the left hand side of the home page of the BRC website. Click the "Sign in" button, then either use an existing user ID and password for Google, Yahoo, Twitter and a few others or if you don't have one of these create a "google friend" account by clicking on "Create a new Google Account" link.
Australian Climbing Association Queensland (ACAQ)
Also for those of you who didn’t attend the Xmas Party, the ACA is an association which has the intention of uniting climbers to have a more powerful voice in the community particularly in regard to accessing crags with both private land owners and political bodies and departments. The ACAQ has been formed in April 2009 and most of the initial members are quite prominent climbers, who have the philosophy that they wish to welcome all types of climbers. The ACAQ has recently taken over the running of the national body from Tasmania, and are currently updating the website. Already the ACAQ has organised crag reps which have commenced liasing with rangers, Brisbane City Council, State Government, etc and have put in submissions for access to the area under the old TAFE site at Kangaroo Point, and are liaing over access in Lamington National Park. Negotiations in regard to these areas are still progressing but regular contact is maintained. Dennis Reeves our president and myself have been in contact with the ACAQ and regular contact and attendance at meetings by committee members or other volunteers will be maintained during the year. The BRC are forwarding $10 per member to the ACAQ for affiliation. In time ince this important base work is completed, the ACAQ intends on offering other services to its members. We are the second Queensland climbing club to join, and add important support to the ACAQ during a time of critical negotiations over crag access.
Work in Progress
The new committee is currently working on a number of proposals to improve communication within the club, particularly for new members, and also the change from member to subscriber. At this time we have not completed drafting the changes. As this is not easy work please bear with us, and we will let you know when each item is completed.
Hope you all had a wonderful Xmas, and I’m looking forward to getting all those photo and trip reports.

Hi All
We're looking for photos and trip reports from BRC trips. You can either give Sean a CD, DVD, email or flash or ask for info on how to directly upload to the site.
Remember we are still looking for confirmations for the Nowra Trip. We now a decent sized party going.
Nowra - September 20 (Sun)- Sept. 26 (Sat)
Nowra climbing is steep (vertical) climbing on short sandstone cliffs and has a lot of hard climbing. locationmap
Don't be put off by that as it is mainly sports climbing with
enough easier & mid grades to keep everyone busy for a five day
stay, without having to climb grade 20 or more.
Add to that, so long as open, a possible drive to the spectacular
Point Perpendicular, an hour away, for airy sea cliff climbing which is
certainly not sports climbing, and a bit more serious, but exhilarating.
The site below shows that there is plenty of climbs to do between
grades 16-19. Don't beput off by the star system as most are good
quality. guides:
This is the first week of Qld. school holidays, but NSW school
holidays don't commence until October 3-18, so the camping and cliffs
are not busy.
We will be camping in Nowra, probably at the ski park (to be
confirmed) which is directly across the river from "Thompsons Point"
cliffs, the main climbing area.
The Ski park has the advantage of offering canoes (usually
complimentary to climbers) which enables us to paddle across the river
to the cliffs. No driving involved and less risk of cars being broken
into which has been a problem in the past. The alternative camping site
is the Wildlife Park next door.
Send an email to the club if you are thinking about going as people will be trying to arrange transport as most will be driving. (1100km, 14 hrs) RouteMap here:
Advise if you need a lift or can give one, and preferred departure from Brisbane and Nowra.
Dennis has been there a couple times before, so contact him if you need more info on climbing at Nowra.

Dennis has received advice from Helen Abrahams, (Councillor for The Gabba Ward), that there will be a public consultation meeting
on Saturday (30/5/09) from 10am to 1pm at the old TAFE site at the northern end of Kangaroo Point. The club has also been approached by Adam Gibson from the Queensland chapter of the Australian Climbing Association to ask members to attend this event to promote greater access to the cliffs below:
... Thus far, climbing has been very noticeably absent on the
literature surrounding the redevelopment despite in-depth submissions
made by the Australian Climbing Association and QUT cliffhangers
rockclimbing club.
This does not bode well for climbers and unless we take some
action and make ourselves heard it is likely that the climbing ban will
remain in place.
What I'd like to see is for each of the clubs to organise as many
as possible of their members, and certainly at least a delegation of
five or six people, to attend the meeting, make themselves known and
make it clear that they want to see climbing opened up from the stairs to lightbox #1.
If you could please make this information available to your members and encourage them to attend that would be excellent.
Regards,
Adam Gibson.
I'd encourage anyone who can make it to go along and wear a club shirt. You can't complain about closed climbs and overcrowding at KP if you don't!.
Adam has also offered the ability for the BRC to affiliate with the Qld chapter of the ACA. All members would then automatically become ACA
members. This is an opportunity for the club to have a voice in and lend support to the work of the the ACA:
to help to support our efforts to create a clear,
representative organisation supporting climbing as a legitimate
activity and helping to build and strengthen relationships with land
managers and policy makers.
Affiliating with the ACA would marginally increase BRC annual subs (probably by $10). The committee will be discussing and advising the approach shortly. If you have a view on how you would like us to deal with this issue please email or discuss with a committee member ASAP.
It has been suggested that the Sept Trip be moved forward one week and now go to Nowra. Dennis is checking facilities etc and formal advice will follow.
Finally, weather permitting, next Tuesday will be a KP Sausage Sizzle for financial members. The BRC has picked up another batch of new members recently, come along and have a chat. Sean
